What to Get Next Time You’re At Trader Joes

July 18, 2017

Since becoming a family of three (Its really four, considering my husband is 6’6″ and eats enough for two) our grocery bill has gone through the roof. We try to buy organic foods, especially when it comes to meat, fruits and vegetables, eggs and milk and those aren’t cheap. I started shopping every week at Trader Joe’s last fall and have saved our family a substantial amount of money. I would typically spend around $200+ weekly at your typical grocery stores and have been spending around $150 each week when I shop at Trader Joe’s. The two closest stores are both about 30 minutes from my house, but I feel the savings each week make the trip well worth it. This isn’t a sponsored post, but I wanted to share a few of my favorite items from Trader Joe’s with you!

Carrot Spirals

I wasn’t sure I was going to like these, because I’m not a huge fan of cooked carrots, but ended up actually liking them. Since my? husband is a diabetic we are always looking for low carb options so we decided to give these a try. We served them with TJ’s Creamy Tomato Sauce and ground turkey and they were really good! My two year old also ate them (and he will never eat vegetables!) so these were a win-win in my book.

Spatchcocked Lemon Rosemary Chicken

This chicken is sooo delicious and it will make your house smell divine as well. The best part about this delicious chicken? besides the flavor, is the price. This chicken is under $6 and is so easy to make. The chicken is also butterflied for you, so it cooks easily and serves easily too. You are going to love the flavors of this, I guarantee you will want to keep the drippings! They also came out with butterflied coffee rub chicken like this a few months ago, but this one was WAY better.

Mashed Cauliflower and Riced Cauliflower (not pictured)

According to Newsmax, Trader Joe’s is on a cauliflower shortage and after tasting these products, I can totally see why! The mashed cauliflower is so good, you might even mistake it for mashed potatoes. I also like their fresh and frozen riced cauliflower and get it a lot when I make their Mandarin Orange Chicken and want to make a low carb “fried rice.”

Cauliflower Pizza Crust

Now you get the cauliflower shortage, right? This pizza crust flew off the freezer shelves as soon as it hit stores. We were lucky enough to snag two of them and they are apparently being restocked at the end of July. This crust was perfect for my diabetic husband and even my two year old who is a picky eater, liked it! He had no clue he was actually eating a vegetable!

Matcha Green Tea

I recently had a green tea latte at Whole Foods Market and quickly became obsessed with them. I found this Matcha powder at Trader Joes and loved it. Unfortunately these only come in individual packets (and can be a little expensive) but they mix perfectly with warm or cold milk! Trader Joe’s also makes a powdered Matcha Green Tea Latte in a large can that you can just mix with water and it already is sweetened and has milk added in.

Matcha Joe Joe’s

Speaking of green tea, these Matcha Joe Joe’s are new and I tried them on a whim one week and loved them! When I first saw them, I didn’t have any interest in them, but once I tried them, I was hooked. My other favorite cookies that Trader Joes makes are the Pink and Whites (their version of frosted animal crackers)

Vegetable Masala Burger

I know this might sound weird, but my husband eats two veggie burgers for lunch every day. I originally picked these up because they were cheap (less than $3 for a package of 4) and my husband loooooves them! Every time he makes them at work, people ask him “what is that delicious smell?!”

Chicken Burrito Bowls

I love getting these for a night that I don’t feel like making anything. I would usually pair these with a Trader Joe’s Southwestern Chopped Salad kit

Honey Walnut Shrimp

I was a little disappointed that the shrimp in this bag didnt look as good as the picture on the bag (they are a lot smaller in person) but the taste of this honey walnut sauce is really good! We had this with their amazing Vegetable Fried Rice

? Harvest Blend Salad Kit

The Harvst Blend Salad Kit is one of my favorites, but unfortunately it is a season item, so keep your eyes open for it this fall. Another seasonal item that we really like is the Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Pancake and Waffle Mix.?

Feta Cheese Spread

An employee at TJ’s reccomended this spread to me and it is like heaven! I dice up their Kumato tomatoes and put it on top and serve it with their Multigrain Crackers and it is amazing!

Cocktail Stirrers

These cocktail stirrers are perfect for dirty martinis and Bloody Marys! They also great just by themselves if you have an antipasto plate that you need to fill!

These were just a FEW of my favorite Trader Joe’s items, but there are so many more I could tell you about! (Maybe a part 2 later?) I would absolutely love to hear about some of your favorite items! Like I mentioned, I am there every week and am always looking for new items to try!
