Today was one of the best days for a teacher..a Snow Day! We over a foot of snow today and it snowed from literally 6:00 this morning until 6:00 tonight. It’s my birthday on Saturday and I just got a new pair of Hunter boots from my mom and dad and I LOVE them! I figured with a day off from school, it would be a perfect time to take some pictures.
I really love black and white, jade and yellow together. I was trying to find something yellow for these pics and I remembered I had a yellow umbrella! (also it was perfect for covering my head while the snow was really coming down). My yellow umbrella is really special to me. It was given to me by cervical cancer survivor, Christine Baze. Christine started The Yellow Umbrella, a non-profit organization that promotes awareness about HPV and cervical cancer.
When I teach Health to my 11th graders, I always spend a lot of time talking about HPV, how to prevent it and how prevalent it is. HPV is extremely common. It is estimated that 80 percent of females will contract the virus at one time or another by the time they reach the age of 50. To read more about HPV, checkout Christine’s website along with her beautiful music.
